Bojo River Cruise — Off the Beaten Path in Cebu

Nestled in the town of Aloguinsan, Cebu, Bojo River offers a serene escape into Cebu’s great outdoors. The Bojo River cruise takes you along the winding Bojo River, surrounded by lush mangroves, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes. This eco-tourism experience is a must-visit if you have time during your next Cebu trip!

How To Get To Bojo River

Public Transport

Head to the Cebu South Bus Terminal and board a bus bound for Aloguinsan. The bus ride takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Upon arrival in Aloguinsan, take a habal-habal (motorbike taxi) or tricycle to the Bojo River Eco-Cultural Tour site, which is about a 20-minute ride.

Car/Private Vehicle

If you prefer a more direct and comfortable option, you can rent a car or hire a private vehicle. The drive from Cebu City to Aloguinsan takes around 2.5 hours.

This was the option we chose and paid PHP 7,000 for 8 hours.

The Bojo River Cruise Experience

The Bojo River Cruise is managed by the local community, ensuring an authentic and environmentally friendly experience. The tour starts with a brief orientation about the river’s ecology and the importance of preserving its natural beauty.

After the orientation, you will board a glass-bottom motorboat with your guide, who will share fascinating insights about the river’s flora and fauna. The cruise lasts about 20 minutes 1 way, if you choose not to go for a swim in the river.

You can choose to end the cruise at Hermit’s Cove, a quiet beach with just a shop selling snacks and drinks, or you can asked to be dropped off where you started. Both has its pros and cons. By dropping off at Hermit’s Cove, you get to enjoy the quiet beach, but your time on the cruise is shorter. If you choose to be dropped at the visitor centre, you get a longer time on the boat.

Our Experience On The Bojo River Cruise

Saw lots of marine animals including starfish and jellyfish

One of the highlights of the Bojo River Cruise is where the river meets the Tañon Strait. The calm, turquoise waters and greenery create a picturesque scene that’s perfect for photos.

As we are not big fans of snorkelling or diving, the glass-bottom boat was also another highlight because it gave us quite a good view of the marine life in the area! We saw lots of fish and swarms of jellyfish. Our guide told us if you’re lucky, you can also spot turtles!

If you choose to end the cruise at Hermit’s Cove like we did, let your driver know to pick you up there and not wait at the welcome centre.

Note: there’s a flight of roughly 80 steps that you’ll have to climb up to get out of the beach area to the carpark, if you choose to end the cruise at Hermit’s Cove.
