The Sukhumvit area is filled many hotels, ranging from luxurious to budget friendly ones. This Mercure Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 Review is a no frills write-up about the hotel, so be sure to read before deciding if this is the hotel for you.
In This Mercure Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 Review
Check-in
Once we got out of our cab, the bellboy promptly asked if we were booked with Mercure or Ibis and were ushered to the Mercure check in desk.
Note: Mercure Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 and Ibis Sukhumvit 24 share the same building. Mercure occupies levels 18 – 29, Ibis occupies levels 8 – 17.
The check-in process was simple; just had to show our passports and sign some forms, as with most hotel check-ins. As we were done with the check-in about an hour before the official check in time, we had to wait in the lobby for about 10 minutes before being let up to our room.
The Room
The Superior King Room was spacious for the 2 of us and we were able to comfortably have a space to ourselves to open up our medium-sized luggages.
The room came with basic amenities, like the mini bar with a kettle. However, there were no bedroom slippers and we only got them when we called the front desk. I believe Mercure does not provide a number of amenities unless asked for.
The Bed
The bed was comfortable, nothing much to complain about.
The Toilet
The shower area had a glass panel that allowed you to look into the room, which may not be ideal if you’re staying with a friend. There is a shower curtain that you can draw to cover up the glass.
There were no other amenities provided in the toilet besides soap, towels and a hairdryer. This meant there was no toothbrushes and vanity kit.
Overall, the toilet was clean but a towel had a huge red stain on it. The soap and lotions were all from elemental herbology.
Facilities
Although we did not explore the facilities in the hotel, I must point out that this hotel, Mercure Bangkok Sukhumvit 24, had an extremely slow lift. It took over 55 seconds to get from level 1 to level 27, without any stops in between. More often than not, there were other guests in the lift, so we were often in the lift for over a minute. I know a minute may not sound like much to you, but a minute is also the same duration needed to walk from the hotel to the nearest BTS station. P.S. it’s also not great when you need to rush to the toilet.
7-11
The 7-11 convenience store right beneath the hotel has go to be my favourite “facility” of Mercure Bangkok Sukhumvit 24. It was the answer to all our first world problems during the trip. Need a snack? Go to 7-11. Need a raincoat? 7-11 has it as well.
Amenities
Public Transport
Although the traffic along the stretch which Mercure Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 is located on is often bad, the hotel is just a 1-minute walk to Phrom Phong BTS station.
Shopping Malls
Right across the road from the hotel is Emporium and Emquartier, both upscale malls with a variety of food options. Terminal 21 Asok is also just 1 BTS stop away.
Wifi
We were given a login for the wifi upon checkin. I managed to watch some live streams on Youtube during my stay, so I’d say the connection is good enough.
The Service
We did not get many chances to experience the service during our trip, but we did have to call the front desk twice, once for the slippers and once to replace the stained towel. Although the housekeeping staff did not seem too pleased, the items were promptly delivered to the room.
Final Rating
For this stay, we booked the Superior King Room and paid S$612.48 for 5 nights, which worked out to around S$122.50 per night. It’s slightly high for Bangkok’s price point and the level of “service” we received. I get that sustainability is a thing now, but having to repeatedly call the front desk for amenities can be quite annoying (for the guest and front desk staff). We also booked over 3 months in advance, so this is not a last-minute price.
Cleanliness: 3/5
Price: 3/5
Ambience: 3/5
Value: 3/5
Remote Workability: 5/5, there is also a working room on the first floor.
This hotel is pretty tailored to business travellers’ needs — with good wifi connection and meeting rooms. I would definitely recommend this for business travellers doing a short stop in Bangkok.
If you’re looking to stay in the same area at a lower price point, you can consider Ibis Sukhumvit 24. The rooms are smaller than Mercure’s, but if you’re not fussy, it could be a good budget option. As at the time of writing this, rooms at Ibis cost about S$30/night less than Mercure’s.
