During our last-minute plan to visit Queenstown, we landed on Blue Peaks Lodge as our choice of accommodation due to a variety of reasons. Great location, reasonable price and most importantly, free parking. This Blue Peaks Lodge review is based on our 5 nights there.
Blue Peaks Lodge is a motel-styled accommodation and TLDR, was probably the cleanest motel I’ve ever stayed in.

Check In

Check in was simple and quick at the reception, which was the first door on the right upon turning into Blue Peaks Lodge’s compound. We were also given a small bottle of milk before heading to our room.
Tip: if you’re sensitive to noise, try requesting for a room facing away from the main road as it can get noisy
The Room

We got the One Bedroom room, which comes with a bedroom and living space. First impressions of the room when we stepped in was that it was really spacious and bright. We got quite lucky with the room and we were able to see bits of Lake Wakatipu from our room.
One thing to note is that you can look into the next room from certain angles, so it’s best if you don’t run around naked, or draw the blinds if you are particular about privacy. The room we stayed in was relatively near the house next door, which I think might be an Airbnb, so we could see what they were doing outside their room(s) as well.

Our room was on the second level, which meant we had to carry our bags up the stairs as there weren’t any lifts. However, we were able to park our car near the stairs, which helped a little.
Unlike a hotel, Blue Peaks Lodge’s rooms are “not in a building”, which also means the rooms are more “exposed”. We encountered really strong winds one night and we heard the doors rattling really loudly. This could be a problem if you’re a light sleeper.
The Bed

There were 2 beds — one queen bed in the bedroom, and a single-sized bed in the living area.
The beds was pretty comfortable, not firm like a rock, but also not soft to the point of no support. In the bedroom, there were plugs on both sides of the queen bed, which made it very convenient for charging devices, especially if you want to charge your phone while you’re lying on the bed.
Blue Peaks Lodge Room Amenities
Kitchenette

The kitchenette was the most used amenity during our stay. It also came fully equipped with cutlery, cookware, and dinnerware. There was also a microwave oven.
Air Conditioner And Heater
As the room does not come with air conditioner, there is a small fan in the room that can be used for air circulation, however the room can get hot, especially in the summer. We got around this by opening the windows and the room cooled down really quickly. However some tiny flies got in the moment we opened the windows. The room does have a heater, so it wouldn’t be a problem on colder days.
The Bathroom

The bathroom was pretty spacious as well, with the toilet and shower area separated. The only downside was that the shower area was pretty small and it was a non-detachable shower head, so it would be difficult to keep your hair dry should you choose not to wash your hair.
Amenities

One of the main reasons we chose Blue Peaks Lodge was its free parking. As a car is often a necessity when travelling New Zealand, having free parking was a big plus for us.
There weren’t the usual hotel amenities such as swimming pool or gym.
WiFi
The only disappointing part of the stay was the WiFi. The WiFi was so slow, it was almost impossible to load Instagram, or even send images on WhatsApp, especially during the “peak” hours, when other guests were back in their room. Occasionally, at “quieter” times such at 3pm in the afternoon, I managed to send images and videos on WhatsApp.
The Service
Service was great, every staff we came across during our stay was very polite and pleasant. However, there is no housekeeping unless you stay for 8 nights or more, but you can get what you need from the front desk, should you run out of necessities like toilet paper.
The Location
Location was definitely Blue Peaks’ top selling point. It was just a 5-minute walk to town, albeit on a hill, which means you will have to walk uphill on the way back. This was very convenient for us, as it was difficult and expensive to get parking in Queenstown Mall.
Queenstown Gardens is just a short 2-minute walk from Blue Peaks Lodge as well.
The Price

For five nights, we paid SGD 1304.10 after tax, working out to around SGD 260 per night. This was one of the cheaper options when we were looking at accommodation options. The higher price was likely also due to booking last minute, as we booked it less than 14 days before the trip. The trip was also in December, which is peak travel period.
Final Rating
Overall, my mum and I really enjoyed our stay at Blue Peaks Lodge and it really served us really well during our stay.
